His school. Ide jartam.
I was here between 1971-75!
Teaching began in 1857 in German, with 50 students and a faculty of 5 at Mátyás király utca 15 called Real School. He received permission to teach in Hungarian only two years later from the City Council of Pécs. Due to the First World War, the school could only move into the new building built on Rákóczi út between 1912 and 1414. By the 1917-1918 school year, the school already had 799 students, making it the most populous high school in the country. Due to the war, many students and teachers were called up as soldiers or volunteered. A memorial plaque to the heroic dead students is located in today’s building.
The Serbs completely looted the school during the occupation of Pécs in 1918-1921. Libraries and warehouses were destroyed. During the years of occupation, teaching took place in the Cistercian grammar school and the city civic boys' school. After the occupation, the school was restored from donations. In 1922, the building had to be handed over for the purposes of the Elizabeth University, which moved from Bratislava to Pécs.
It was then that the institution took the name of Count István Széchenyi in 1925. This year, Dr. Viktor Horváth Director XI. He was inaugurated by Pope Pius as a knight of the Order of New Year's Eve. A year later, the institute was inaugurated as a practicing school at Elizabeth University. Excellent scholar teachers joined the teaching, raising the standard of training, further enhancing the school’s reputation.
From 1940, real school training was abolished and replaced by high school training. In 1944, the school had to leave the King Street building due to an expired lease with the bishopric. A military hospital was established in the building. In 1948, after several moves, the Széchenyi István High School was merged into the Nagy Lajos High School. This marked the end of the first era of the school.
Second Age Editing
In 1954, the grammar school was reopened under its old name in the King Street building. In 1956, a humanities department was started, and from 1958, the “polytechnic model” was introduced, from which the vocational secondary school was later developed. The mathematics-physics department was started in 1966, later only the mathematics department, which operated until 1982, with excellent results. The Széchenyi István Grammar School and Vocational High School became one of the outstanding secondary schools in Pécs, and based on the study results, it was always among the top five secondary schools in the city. In the evening class, which started in 1971, adult education. They trained car mechanics and communications technicians for twenty years.
In 1992, the physics education with a unique curriculum (physics department) was started, then the following year the teaching with a human subject block system (humanities department). In 1993, a new gymnasium was inaugurated at the institution. The automotive electrical engineering laboratory was completed this year, which made it possible to train automotive electronics technicians. He has been training in computer science since 1998. The Millennium Gallery was inaugurated in 2000, on the Day of Hungarian Culture. In honor of the millennium, the Memorial and Friends Circle of Teacher Trainers of Pécs donated 56 works of art, mostly paintings, to the school. A memorial plaque was inaugurated in January 2005 on the occasion that the school took the name of István Széchenyi 80 years ago.
Beautiful building, a facade that is probably part of the neighboring church.
