Szarvaskő Rail Tunnel I

The railway passes between Eger and Mónosbél through the Szarvaskő gorge of special beauty, where, in addition to two bridges, it was necessary to build two tunnels in the particularly hard rock. The task was solved with high-performance electric drills instead of the previously problematic blasts. The special feature of the southern tunnel is that the rock was solid enough to stop safely even without support, it is currently the only such large-walled large railway tunnel in the country. Three tunnels were also drilled: two in the Szarvaskő gorge, one between Sáta and Kiskapud. The first tunnel is 143 meters long, the second 76 meters long and the third 188 meters long.
