By the 1920s, the majority of the Orthodox Greek-Oriental population living in Hungary had become fully Hungarian. However, the language of worship remained Greek and the higher ecclesiastical authorities did not even support the operation of independent Hungarian parishes. Their case was reassured in 1949, when they were brought under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate - at which time the liturgical use of the Hungarian language became possible. Believers of the Orthodox Christian Church have been present in Debrecen since the Middle Ages, their numbers continued to grow after World War I and they had a small chapel in two places in the city. This church, which was their first independent church in 2012, was built from an outbuilding. The dome was made from the donation of Iván Fedák and his wife, Svetlana Petrinku, as well as the faithful of Debrecen. The ward choir was organized for church services. The believers are of Hungarian, Greek, Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Armenian, etc. nationality, so the languages of worship are Hungarian, Greek, and Church Slavonic.
