St Ignatius Church

Good looking church, but not open to visitors.

A nice church in Esztergom, not far from the city center.

The monumental church is one of the outstanding memories of Italian baroque architecture in Esztergom. Beautiful interior, sublime appearance.

In 1686, the Jesuits appeared in the Water City. They built the present-day Baroque church in honor of St. Ignatius of Loyola between 1728 and 1738 at the former water gate. It defines the view of the Water City. Until the Basilica was completed, this church was used as the cathedral. During its renovation, a clock painted on both towers was placed, the clocks showing 11:32. On December 26, 1944, at 11:32 a.m., the Mária Valéria bridge connecting Esztergom with Sturovo was blown up. It took sixty years to rebuild the bridge.

Located on the road from the pier on the Danube on the way to the Basilica of St. Adalbert. A very photogenic place.
