Saint Joseph's Church

Renovation of St. Joseph's Church in Malé has begun.

The most beautiful little church in Pécs, if not in Hungary.

The sanctuary of the church of the Malom settlement is Romanian and Gothic style, XII. century, the extended part dates back to the 18th century. century in baroque style. The single-nave facade tower church was built in three construction periods. The semicircular sanctuary and the first shop section of its nave have an open gate on the south façade, with three slit windows above it, Romanesque. During the Gothic period, the nave was extended to the west, and a new pointed arched gate was built after the Romanian gate was masonry. The Gothic extension rebuilt in the Baroque period and the smooth, whitewashed plaster of the tower differ from the Romanesque part. The special values ​​of the interior of the church are the exposed murals. Remains of statues of apostles standing in arcades on the wall of the sanctuary can be seen in the 12th century. century. Fragments of frescoes also remain on the triumphal arch of the church. The monumental restoration of the church took place in the early 1970s, when a new liturgical space was created during the internal renovation and the frescoes were also restored. Since then, the church has been constantly renewed. The stagnant water around the church was drained in the ground, the roof structure was strengthened, a new monumental tile was covered, the tower was renovated, and the XV. for the exterior and interior repair of whitewashed walls extended in the 16th century. The external (decorative) lighting of the renovated building was also realized. In the immediate vicinity of the church is the monumental cemetery, in which it is no longer possible to bury.
