Highly transparent exhibitions. I really liked the furnished shops. The Children of Socialism exhibition was a great experience.
It is nice and interesting museum that must be seen if you get there ... Could you come to Hungary and Kanije and not remember Tiryaki Hasan Pasha and the famous Kanije Defense? Even though the castle is not in place today, this situation does not eliminate the Kanije Victory that our ancestors recorded in the history of military service in golden letters.
If we keep the history alive; After Sigetvar Castle was taken over by the Ottomans in 1566, Kanije Castle gained great importance. For this reason, Kanije is transferred directly to the king of Habsburg, and the most famous Hungarian commander of that region, György Thury, is appointed as governor here. Thury was killed in a clash with Ottoman soldiers in 1571.
Although the castle was surrounded by the Ottomans in the following years, it cannot be taken. However, Grand Vizier Damad İbrâhim Pasha received the Kanije Castle after a forty-day siege on 20 October 1600. The castle commander and other defenders who delivered the castle are executed by the Habsburgs.
About a year later, on September 9, 1601, the 80th army of the Austrian Army Kanije came before them to reclaim the fortress. Kanije Beylerbeyi Hasan Pasha shows great resistance against the crowded Habsburg army with a force of 9 thousand people. It counteracts heroically against public attacks. However, the lack of military support makes it increasingly difficult to defend.
On the other hand, the deterioration of weather conditions leaves the Habsburg army in a difficult position. Tiryaki Hasan Pasha, who sees this situation by determining the situation well, surprises the Habsburg troops by carrying out a hurricane operation when the Austrians never expected. A great defeat begins at the Austrian Army headquarters, which thinks that the Ottoman Army has come to help. Prince Ferdinand and his allies leave the army weights and treasure behind and withdraw with great fear. Thus, the Austrian Habsburg army suffers a major defeat, with heavy losses against a handful of Ottoman soldiers.
After this victory, Kanije remained under Turkish domination for nearly 90 years. After the 2nd Vienna Siege defeat, the Habsburg army of 60,000 again besieged Kanije in 1690. Guards who cannot get help from anywhere have to start negotiations about surrender after three more months of resistance. The last gentleman Mustafa Pasha goes to Vienna and signs the "vire" specification. Thus, the ninety-year Ottoman domination ended.
Kanije Castle was destroyed in 1702 by the Habsburg ruler. Various buildings were built in the 18th century from the stones of the castle. Later, alcohol, machinery and glass factories are established on the ruins of the castle. The only example that reminds of the ninety-year Ottoman period is the tombstone of Mustafa Pasha, the last governor, placed in a church.
