Győri zsinagóga

Beautiful, captivating building.

It was built according to the plans of the former Győr synagogue, Károly Benkó, architect of Pest. It was inaugurated on September 15, 1870, along with a two-story school associated with the temple building. Built in the spirit of late historicism and Art Nouveau, the synagogue became one of the representative buildings of Győr. The synagogue became state-owned in 1968, and in 1993 owned by the city. In 2003, the reconstruction began with the award-winning grant and other inputs. János Vasilescu's art collection can be viewed in the central square and in the gallery. Based on its excellent acoustics, concerts are often organized here, as well as museum visits, guided tours, and musical events for mass visitors.
