It is the second largest Lutheran church in Budapest after the most ornate Protestant church in the capital, Deák tér Lutheran Church. It forms a building block with the building of the Lutheran Grammar School in Faso. The high school was completed in December 1904 and the church in 1905. It was consecrated on October 8, 1905. The church in Fasor was the first Lutheran church in Budapest, where worship was conducted only in Hungarian. During the siege of Budapest the glass windows painted by Miksa Róth were destroyed and the tower clock damaged. In 1973-74, a complete interior renovation and in 1996 an external renovation took place. Glass windows were replaced by glass artist Miklós Kiss in 1997, 1999 and 2002.
