In 1718, the first stone church was built in the settlement, which served the people of Kapuvár for almost a hundred years. Meanwhile, population growth and sinking soil made it necessary to build a new church. In 1808, the demolition of the first stone church and the construction of the new one began in Kapuvár. Of the first church, only the tower remained, and the new section was built for this. It became the main nave of today’s Great Church, running from the tower to the iron bar of the sanctuary. The church was built in the classicist style, with three huge illuminated windows each. In 1843, a huge fire destroyed Kapuvár, and the tower and roof of the church burned in the fire. In 1844, three bells were made for the church in Kapuvár in the bell foundry of Frigyes Seltenhofer in Sopron. The tower also received a new tower clock. A decision was made in 1880 to rebuild the church. Its size was left at 1,200 places, while the population tripled, and 6,500 people already lived in Kapuvár. Construction began in 1883, and the plans were made by the princely architect Károly Meiszner. The sanctuary was lengthened, the side walls became columns, and two new ships were added to the church building. The tower became 32 meters high, and an octagonal dome was added. The huge classicist windows were replaced with smaller ones. Instead of a coffered ceiling, a triple dome was built. In addition to the large tower, two small towers were added to the aisles. The entire makeover is done in an eclectic style. On October 12, 1884, the new church was consecrated.
It was built in 1808 in neoclassical style.
It was damaged in the fire of 1843, so it was rebuilt and expanded with two auxiliary ships, from which time the three-ship church was built.
The transformation took place in an eclectic style.
The picture on the main altar depicting St. Anne and her family was made in 1821 by Carol Petrus Goebel in Vienna.
The ornament of the church is the Lourdes cave built into the right-wing craft.
In Kapuvár we glanced through the temple, maybe next time we will have time to look inside.
And on Saturday you can go! :-)
Beautiful chorus
