The five hundred Lutheran inhabitants of Újpest village founded a school in 1868, which became the foundation of their church. Construction of their church began in 1875. They were built on credit, the congregation could not bear the burden, the church had to be auctioned off in 1877-78. Lujza Blaha, the nightingale of the nation, "sang it back" to them - she donated the proceeds of her songs to the Lutherans of Újpest. A II. in world war the church was hit by a bomb. The believers put it in order on their own, and it has been renovated several times since then.
