In 1873, Lajos Mády moved to Újpest as a teacher, who studied theology in Debrecen and also took care of the pastoral care of the 476 Reformed inhabitants of the young village. Their church was built in 1878. In 1895, the Reformed congregation, which already had 2,100 members, was transformed into an independent parish.
