The Berényi Fountain, built in 1739, stands on the north side of the cathedral. Above your simple, carved coffee we can admire a magnificent wrought-iron lattice. The name of the well and the coat of arms on it refer to the creator, Bishop Zsigmond Berényi. In the Diocese of Pécs, half a century after the end of the Turkish occupation, the establishment of the institute of priestly education is named after him. The foundation stone of the seminary was laid on 4 June 1742 and consecrated on 4 September 1746 in honor of St. Paul. The collection of Bishop Berényi and the chapter of about three thousand volumes formed the basis of Hungary's first public library, which opened its doors in Pécs in 1774. On the north side of the Cathedral stands the Berényi Fountain, which was built in 1739. Above your simple, carved coffee we can admire a magnificent wrought-iron lattice. The name of the well, as well as the coat of arms on it, refer to its bishop Zsigmond Berényi.
