"In the 12th century there was already a monastery dedicated to the Apostle Philip. During the Tartar invasion the village was destroyed. In 1247 the monastery still exists but will soon be abandoned. In the 14th century there is only a mention of Szőreg parish in the documents. The church was built by the Franciscans of Szeged in 1752. The church was built in 1752 and the parish in 1761. The current church was completed in 1816. The village was annexed to Szeged in 1973.
