The settlement was depopulated during the 150 years of Turkish rule, from 1730 the Mercy and then the Apponyi landlord family settled German Lutheran serfs here. The village had more than a thousand inhabitants by the 1780s. The 1781 grace decree allowed them to organize a parish and build a church. The late Baroque Lutheran church made of stone and brick was consecrated in 1789. The 28-meter-high building with a helmeted tower and a floor area of 23x13 meters is suitable for 600-700 people. Its two bells are from János Fischer's workshop in Pécs. The church was gradually and demandingly equipped with a tower clock and an organ; the pulpit altar was decorated with the work of the academic painter István Wits. The monumental church still retains its original furnishings and ornate gallery. The church was regularly maintained by the congregation (renovated in 1820, 1897, 1905).
