Elemér Főnyedi (01/12/2021)
The protected elm that lasted here for more than 400 years, in which, according to folk tradition, Ferenc Rákóczi himself, the ruling prince, also rested. However, this legend is not supported by any written data. Károly Kaán writes about the tree in his book Nature Conservation and Natural Monuments, published in 1931: "The king of the elm trees is undoubtedly the elm (Ulmus campestris) in Tahattyya, which is so fondly visited by holidaymakers at Lake Balaton. Károly Eötvös remembers this old tree very fondly in his writings." , in the siege of storms and lightnings. " It is really princely and its location can be seen from the far west, from the tip of Tihany. Next to the tree there is a breathtaking view of Lake Balaton. In its heyday, it was measured to be 22 m high, with a chest height of 240 cm and a circumference of 750 cm. Unfortunately, the Rákóczi tree was largely extinct as a result of a lightning strike, and in 1991 a fierce windstorm knocked out the remnants.
