With the collection and cultural offer of the small museum with a fine art collection, which opened on July 15, 1995, it has been trying to serve the residents of Jászberény and Jászság, as well as the visitors, for almost a decade and a half. The museum institution of public interest was organized from the donation of fine arts donated by the painter and film director Ákos D. Hamza (1903–1993) to the city of Jászberény and Jászság in 1987, which contains a very significant part of his pictorial oeuvre. Ákos D. Hamza's oeuvre was born in Paris, far from Hungary, and then in São Paulo, Brazil. After a 36-year stay in Brazil, he settled home in 1989. Hamza's grandfather, Pál Hamza, was a folk teacher in Jászberény, so the painter spent his summers in this city. This attachment prompted him to choose Jászberény as his last residence, where he lived until his death in 1993.
