We visited the Nógrád castle, and since my ancestors came from Romhány, we went over to see the settlement, and once we were there we visited the tree! It remains a defining memory for me from family tree research and from a historical point of view !! Maybe my grandfather or my grandmother chilled under his branches .... Obviously the area has an emotional charge for me, so I look at the landscape with different eyes. Anyone who visits here just because of the wood can be disappointed, connect it with tours, castle visits, so you will leave with experiences!

Pleasant detour for a longer hike. It doesn’t make much sense to visit on your own - if you’re just not local and want a shorter walk. The tree is there, but the view gives more. The adjoining rest area has not been really respected in the recent past. It has advanced into a drinking place for the locals based on the clues.

Very nice view of the site of the Battle of Romnyz (the Rákóczi Monument is a little further away from the place of battle in Romny, where the Kuruc troops were probably stationed). The tree stands on a small hill, about 250 years old, according to research, but it is unlikely that Rákóczi was standing under it, though he said very nice. From the hill, however, the battlefield was clear, perhaps there was a command post. Unfortunately, the Kuruc lost the battle, despite the fact that the enemy had already been squeezed into the swamps, and the Austrian general also reported a losing battle to Vienna during the battle. The Austrian army reorganized itself and defeated the victorious Kuruc army. The tree is one of the stations of the study trail in Romany.

The tree is there and it is very beautiful! A blue + hiking sign leads to the tree, but rather incompletely. In the parking lot there are tables, benches (no shade, washbasin). The footpath to the tree is moderately steep and very uncomfortable, and I think it is barely accessible after heavy rain. When we arrive, the shade under the huge tree is nice. The bench has been destroyed, the weed is high, and trash is rarely emptied. Despite the inconvenience, the sight and "power" of a 300-year-old tree is a great experience.

A great little hiking place! The view is nice. The scenery was wonderful, from Rétság to Romarv.
