PT Sriwijaya Air was born as a pure private company founded by Chandra Lie, Hendry Lie, Johannes Bunjamin, and Andy Halim. Some experts who contributed to the founding of Sriwijaya Air include Supardi, Capt. Kusnadi, Capt. Fair W, Capt. Harwick L, Gabriella, and Suwarsono.nnSriwijaya Air was established with the aim of uniting the entire archipelago like the wishes of the former Srivijaya royal king from Palembang. This desire is then realized through the development of air transportation.nnIn 2003, right on Heroes' Day, November 10, Sriwijaya Air started its inaugural flight by flying the Jakarta-Pangkalpinang PP, Jakarta-Palembang PP, Jakarta-Jambi PP, and Jakarta-Pontianak PP routes.nnIn the beginning, Sriwijaya Air only operated a fleet of Boeing 737-200 which then over time continued to have 15 Boeing 737-200 fleets. In accordance with technological developments and the need for better fulfillment of public services, Sriwijaya Air then added and expanded its flight range from West to East while adding aircraft with newer series, namely the Boeing 737-300, Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-500W, and Boeing 737-800NG.nnThe airline had ordered 20 units of Embraer 175 and Embraer 195 at the 2011 Paris Airshow, but later this order was canceled due to operational reasons, and was later replaced by a Boeing 737-500W. However, it is possible that Sriwijaya Air will order the Embraer again, which will be allocated to its subsidiary, namely NAM Air.nnIn August 2007, Sriwijaya Air received an aviation safety award from Boeing, namely the Boeing International Award for Safety and Maintenance of Aircraft, awarded after several months of inspection by a team from the Boeing Company.nnOn August 1, 2011, Sriwijaya Air launched a braille language guidebook and a special program for handling blind people who flew with the airline. The cabin crew have been specially trained to handle passengers who have these weaknesses, including by personal approaches and by physical touch.nnOn June 16, 2015 at the Paris Air Show 2015, Sriwijaya Air announced the exact order of 2 units of 737-900ER with 20 units of 737 MAX 8 as an option to be taken in the future. This order is the first time Sriwijaya Air has ordered a completely new aircraft and directly from the factory. The two 737-900ERs owned by Sriwijaya Air have arrived together on August 23, 2015. [3]nnIn August 2015, Sriwijaya Air again obtained flight safety certification, namely the Basic Aviation Risk Standard (BARS) conducted by the Flight Safety Foundation, based in the United States.

You can move more safely than Lion Air.

It's cheaper than Garuda, but delays are inevitable. All of our flights in Indonesia with Garuda were ok, however, and the service and baggage allowance are better. Next time I would only book Garuda.
