San Diego Zoo Safari Park

This park is unlike any other attraction you will visit in California. The animals are mostly rescues, others born into their breeding and re-introduction programs. Enclosures are spacious, clean and natural. This is a great place to spend the day with family, groups, or a couple. My husband and I have been pass holders many times in the past, but no longer live in the area. We were VERY impressed with the new tiger attraction, as that area was previously desert paths leading up to the world gardens. Because they are adding the Australian exhibit, the pathways up to the world gardens are currently closed off, but we were still able to get great views of the park from condor ridge. Every time we visit there seems to be new activities available, like Zipline, ropes course, eateries, tour packages. Although these can be a bit pricey, you will still spend less than Disneyland or similar parks in comparison. The mornings are great for the weather, the afternoon can get hot. If traveling with adults or couples, I would suggest arriving at about 12-1pm, as the families usually clear out by 2pm. This still gives you plenty of time to explore while most guests have gone home. I suggest taking a lap and doing a full loop at least once, and don't forget to visit the nursery, there is an adorable cheetah kitten currently, we could have watched the little dude for hours!

Everyone at the park who works there, was very polite and so fun. The park is kept immaculate. What a fun job huh? And the Butterfly experience! That was the best!! I would recommend renting a wheelchair if you're 75 like me and have a bad back, because we walked about 5.6 MI, almost all of it is up and down and around but on even ground. For most of the additional excursions, like the Butterfly experience or the Safari, they require a group to be six people and some allow more, but on the Butterfly experience it's six people Max, and even though you're only four people you're still going to have to buy the six people price which is $60. Very worth it very worth it. Butterflies landed on my daughter even though she was wearing an animal print like a cheetah. Use your AAA or Automobile Club of Southern California, for a 10% discount and book your tickets online and pick your times and dates. We only missed the gorillas, because we got there at 5 minutes to closing. And then keepers were already cleaning the pin. So where the dangerous animals are, you probably want to see those ones earlier in the day. Such as the Lions the tigers and the gorillas.

This has been one of my favorite Zoo experiences since I was a kid. I highly recommend this park. Very spacious and open, it feels very authentic and there are plenty of chances to learn a thing or two about the animals from the various zoo keepers around the park. I could go on for a long time about how great this place is, but you’re better off just going and experiencing it for yourself. Being the kids, and have some fun!

I've been to a lot of zoos, haven't been to a lot of safaris so I don't know if this really is a zoo or a safari however it's better than any zoo I've ever been to. Even if you cut out all the animals the scenery is amazing, from the plant and floral to the unique areas simulating different parts of the world it is amazing. The animals seemed happier than I've seen in other zoos with plenty of room to roam around. It is pricey but a great experience
