Manalar Waterfalls is situated at Achankovil in Kollam district of Kerala. It is on the eastern area of Kollam District and Konni forest. Manalar Waterfall is about 112 km away from Kollam city.
Manalar waterfalls is yet another splendour of Kerala’s beauty tucked away within the silent creeks of the Western ghats. The small building along the nearest roadside is just a namesake facilitation center that does zero use to visitors.nnThen visitors would simply go off-route walking along a forest trail almost half a km into the forest to discover the Manalar falls. We had to jump across watercourses, climb up rocks and tread along bouldered terrains to reach the wonder. The falls occur in 4 steps and is a performance of nature’s exhibition. It occurs in a melody of synchronised descents and finally a crescendo of downstream flow. The sparkling and foaming hum of the water is a soothing resonace in the woodland setting. Certainly, a stress reliever for us city-dwellers.nnBut the downside is that such tourism centers don’t have any facilities in the vicinity to access, in terms of basic amenities. Nature’s call needs to be addressed in the open which polluted the environment. No waste collection centers in the area, which means you would find a lot of unwanted stuff lying around.nnAnother heads up- Watch out for the leeches. They are the blood-sucking vampires of the insect family, and quite camouflaged within the loamy soil.
Manalar Water fall is on the way to Achankovil from Shengottai, the route is awesome nature beauty through the forest.
Super awesome place for bike trips. Thrill roads, amazing forest environment. Best time to visit when low crowded. Mini trekking inside forest about 600 metres. Vehicles are safely guarded outside. If u are planning for a trip, must visit this place
Local people said that the falls is permanently closed due to the death of a few people.. Don't know, maybe they will open it in monsoon season.. Falls is located deep inside Achenkovil which is part of Konni reserve forest.. One thing need to be said..Most of the deaths in the falls is due to the utter negligence of the people..Even though Instructions and safety measures are given properly, they couldn't suppress their adrenal surge .... Thus they loose their lives.. See nature, feel nature but don't ever neglect the instructions given.. Be safe ..
