Melbourne Zoo

Need to book tickets online, even if you are a zoo member. There are two sessions a day: one in the mornings and one in the afternoon/evening. Evening is very quiet. We were the only ones in some of the exhibits and the only ones riding the carousel. We were also the only ones in the dinosaur area for a period. The main food area was closed but the giraffe cafe was open at dinner time.

Our Roar and Snore sleepover at Melbourne Zoo was absolutely amazing. Pete and Amy, our camp hosts, were a lot of fun and really knowledgeable about everything going on at the zoo. Dinner was a tasty affair, before we went on a night hike to observe the nocturnal species.nIn the morning we had the opportunity to feed the giraffes, however the giraffes decided not to come over. It was great seeing how respectful the keepers were of the giraffes' right to choose their interactions.nIt was really interesting going behind the scenes, and learning about the animals and all the incredible conservation work done by the zoo.

This is one of the best zoos in the world. From the amazing reptile house that I can spend hours walking through, to the world class butterfly house which is just so beautiful it has to be experienced to really understand.nThe lions have an elevated viewing walkway which again provides a first class look into the lives of the lions.nI could go in & on, but you get the idea. I loved the Melbourne Zoo as a child & I still really like to go & understand how truly lucky we are to have such a one of a kind place here in our city. Highly recommended.

The zoo has come a long way. Staff are fantastic. Animals look comfortable. Exhibitions are good but could do with some colour coding of the paths to match the maps. Big on recycling - bravo. We even had good coffee and food that didn't break the bank. Well done zoo.n.Don't try to park there after 10:30 in school holidays. Yesterday, we did and failed. Today we parked in the city and caught the train. Easier by far!

Melbourne Zoo - always a great place to spend a day, rain, hail or shine. It's always fascinating. We go there 10-15 times per year, and have never been bored yet. Well done Zoos Victoria !!
