Situated at an altitude of 1220 meters above sea level, Abu Parvat (Mount Abu) is the only mountain town of Rajasthan. The ancient name of this city was Arbudanchal, at this place Lord Shiva appeared to the Bhil couple Ahuk and Ahuja. It is the highest peak of the Aravalli Mountains, the main pilgrimage place for the Jains and the summer Shailavas of the state. Situated as a single mass of granite rocks at the very south-west end of the Aravalli ranges, the Abu Mountains are separated from the other ranges by a narrow valley about 10 km west of the Banas River. Historical monuments, religious pilgrimages, and artistic monuments located at the top and side of the mountain, have permanent funds of crafts-paintings and architecture. There is a footprint inscribed in the cave here, which people consider to be the footprint of Bhrigu. In the center of the mountain are two huge Jain temples of marble.
