It was renovated by the current CM of West Bengal in 2012 on 24th May. You can see the mid height tower (60 ft) while u care walking on the path parallel to strand road on the ride and river ganga (hoogly) to left from Princep ghat. Based on record this Monument, aka Ellenborough’s Folly, was erected in 1847 by Lord Ellenborough, the Governor-General of India, as a memorial to the officers and men who fell during the Gwalior War in 1847. In the attached picture there is the description of this monument in Bengali.

Beautiful monument built in memory of fallen Indian soldiers in the war fought with the British in 1842 at Gwalior. Well lit at night, earlier tourists could climb up the monument. Beautiful.
