If you are in Alleppey and want to experience backwater journey for few hours then it is recommended to take Shikara boats which is cheaper than house boats. There are so many Shikaras and motorboats ideal for family, friends and groups. You can cruise through the Vembanad lake and canals. Ask for country canoe ride, If you want to explore narrow intrinsic canals and remote countryside. Price will be extra. However, for that you have to travel in Shikara to the Canoe ride starting point which takes almost an hour one-way. The same shikara will wait during you canoe ride and take you back. Try to bargain a bit if the price sounds high for you.
