For sure go on a houseboat - it really is magical, and I've been living in Kerala for several months, so I'm used to it - still in awe: it's gorgeous, mellow, the MOST relaxing chill pretty experience.nHOWEVER: Ben's Holidays - please go with another company. We witnessed the owner (manager?) being so cruel to the staff. That was enough, but then even though we were on an empty houseboat and there were four open, empty rooms, he insisted that we all stay in one room, two of us on the floor, or pay 7000 ($140) for an extra room. Again: there was no one else on the boat. I explained to him that :a) I live here and have people visiting several times, and I'd be happy to bring in repeat business, b) I'd be happy to pay 2000 ($40) - it's all free money for him at that point, but no, 7000 or nothing. He wasn't paying any more for food, or staff, or gas - this is to use one bed that isn't being used anyhow. Very strange and short-sighted. He then put padlocks on the other doors, which I found offensive.nAlso, his boats are decorated like Scarface/70's porn - for sure not traditional or charming in any way.nThere is so much competition on the backwaters that there must be a more worthy company. I'm going back in March and I'll post about the next company I go with, but please don't go with this guy - he's a you-know-what.

Rainy season is best for house boat.. price are starting from below ten thousand to various according to there quality and facilities... try to bring fish from market and the chef will make it for you in the boat ..that way you can save lot of money , because usually they stop in some shops while boating for buying fish if we want , that coast a high price
