Hirakud Dam is built across the Mahanadi River, about 15 kilometres (9 mi) from Sambalpur in the state of Odisha in India. Behind the dam extends a lake, Hirakud Reservoir, 55 km (34 mi) long. It is one of the first major multipurpose river valley projects started after India's independence. It's height is 200ft and length is 3 mile main section and 16 mile the entire dam. Total capacity of the reservoir is 58963000000 meter cube.

Its a beautiful and scenic dam situated near Chhattisgarh border in Odisha. Though, due to Covid-19, its restricted to go onto dam, but people can visit and have a look from the top where watch house is situated. The road which goes to the top gives scenic views. You can see a small island from there. Easy to reach road. A good place to visit with family.
