We were visiting Nagapattinam and were taken to Nagore to see Vazhaipazha Perumal temple. Since the lanes are narrow our van had to be parked on the main road. We being part of Paduka sahasram group of Srirangam were dressed in green 9 yards.As we made our way to the temple women came out of their houses and gave a friendly smile. The temple is for Srinivasa Perumal and we were shown at the entrance Vazhaipazha Perumal who fulfilled wished of devotees who offered bananas after their prayers were answered. The Divya mangala vigraham of Perumal developed a crack and was replaced by new one.An old woman who used to come daily heard the old Perumal who was put on the compound say He was hungry so she offered Him bananas daily and came to be called Vazhapaia paati.After consulting Mahaperiya the vigraham was fixed and installed near the entrance where He continues to bless.We were all taken to paati's house where her children live and enjoyed their hospitality. They gave hot milk to almost 50 of us ad also tamboolam.We got to see this paati's photo and were impressed to know that the day after her death anniversary the family feeds the residents of Nagore majority being Muslim.There is no animosity here and both communities follow their religion and live amicably.It is people like this paati who make a difference.
