Bahadur Fort changed hands several times; during Akbar’s reign it was under the control of rebel Muslim chieftains.nnAs a token of gratitude for his commandership in the Deccan, Akbar granted Raja Gopal Das the authority to visit the capital of Agra, heralded by a ceremonial drum and state procession, an honour not ordinarily accorded to other rulers. He also awarded him the title of ‘Dev Bahadur’ and conferred upon him the Mahi Miratib - the ceremonial order of the Fish and the Moon.nnRaja Gopal Das continued to run his administration from Utgir, though the kingdom was officially known as Karauli. He is responsible for the addition of several forts and palaces in the area, including Machal Pur, Bahadur Pur (or Bhadarpur fort) and more. The fort still stands, and much like the other forts of Karauli was intricately carved. An idol of the deity Magadh Rai ji, regarded as an ancestor of the family, is still worshipped by a priest in the Gopal temple. The idol of Gopal ji was worshiped here too, before it was brought to Karauli’s Madan Mohan ji temple by Raja
