Awesome fort..nLittle bit riskey for new hikers butnMountain males you exhausted you have to carry 3 litre water and dry snakes for hiking start early in morning is preferable
Once you reach Salher salota common point from Waghambe go take left to reach salota. The part of the trail before steps is washed away due to land slide which makes it little bit slippery. there are many stones blocking the first entrance of salota you have to climb these stones. After this there is second entrance from here easy traverse with many water tanks on right. After third entrance you reach the fort. There are some remains on the fort and one hanuman temple. There is no drinking water on fort. From waghambe 2-2:30 hrs to reach Salota. You can do Salher and Salota fort in one day.
Salota trek is usually done as a twin trek with Salher fort which is just adjacent to Salota and connected by a common ridge. Try taking your own transport as you won't get any private transport there. We took our vehicle from mumbai and reached wagamba village in 6 hours from Thane. Stayed at a villagers house next to wagamba temple. He provided is breakfast and guide. Salota is a 3 hour trek from base village approx 5.5 kms. We clilbed salota and then climbed Salher. Both the forts have water tanks with water till February. Salher has more water tanks and a bigger one too where people usually come foe night camping. We got down from salher to Salher wadi behind where our vehicle was waiting to take us back. Total trek time with multiple breaks was 8 hours comfortably. It can be described as a medium to difficult trek with lots of endurance needed. I used 2.5 litres of water.
Moderate level trekking.nTo trek this fort you can go through 2 waysn1. Waghambe - nearest routen2. Salher WadinIt takes around 2 or 2 and half hour to reach to the top.nThis fort ia bit difficult in monsoon as some parts of route becomes muddy and slippery. Not forget to bring sufficient water with you, there is no source of drinking water.
Neighbor of highest fort in Maharashtra (Salher), Salota appears to be non-climbable when seen from its base or from top of Salher.. the route towards right of the fort, from the common point for both the forts will take you to the steps.. the top has 3 cisterns and a hanuman idol.. view of Salher is breathtaking..
