Really beautiful to see.every person who visit this place will be surprised due to its architecture..it will be really besutiful..engineers and otherworkers worked hard to complete its work..if we looks from the top of the dam,the people on the bottom will be seen like dots
You see the other side of the idukki arch dam here. Where water not present. It looks like a big wall. It is around 169 meters from the bottom to top. And at the bottom it is around 20 meters where as when you reach the top it is more tham 150 metrrs long.nThere is tight police security present 24/7.nBut if you are a VIP or go with a vip the police will allow you to go near and even touch the wall.nBut beware the arrogant police will abuse you otherwise.nNo photographs allowed
World's second and Asia's first arch dam. This is not the dam entrance.. It is near the private road to the dam bottom.. Visitors not allowed to the dam bottom...nNB:nIdukki Dam entrance is through Cheruthoni dam..nMobile phones and e gadgets not allowed inside the dam..nThey can be kept in the counters/clockroomsnElectric Buggy cars available (Rs.50 per head)nnThe Idukki Arch Dam(1975) (has no shutters), in Kerala, India, is a 169.16 m (555 ft) tall concrete double, curvature parabolic, thin arch dam.. The dam stands between 2 mountains - Kuravanmala (839)m and Kurathimala (925)m.Built by Hindustan Construction Company.. It supports a 780 MW hydroelectric power station (KSEB)nIt is built on the Periyar River, in the ravine between the 2 hills in Kerala, India. It started generating power in 1976. This was constructed along with two other dams at Cheruthoni & Kulamavu. Together, the 3 dams creates an artificial lake 60 km² in area. This water is used to produce electricity at the Moolamattom Power house.
It is wonderful place to visit .must visit while staying at Idukki township. There is a pocket road to the bottom of the Idukki arch dam from Idukki township. Just 400 metres to the bottom of the dam from the town .An amazing view of the dam is kuravan kurathi hills is available from herenYou can't go upto the extreme bottom of the dam there is a gate 200 metres far from the dam ,you can stay there
