This taluk has common hillsides in the plain, west and north. Chunchanagiri is the most famous of these. The Shimsha River, which flows from Tumkur, flows a little to the eastern boundary of the taluk. The Lokapavani River originates in the south-west of the taluk and continues southwards to the Pandavpur taluk. The taluk altogether slopes east and south.nnGold deposits are found in the western rocks. But this is insignificant; Not financially viable. Soft clay stone is another mineral deposit. There are scrub forests scattered throughout the taluka. The soil is usually sandy. There is also red soil. Annual average rainfall is ೫೯೮ mm. The main crops are millet, maize, bean and tomato. The lakes are special.nnWith the help of wells, they grow sugarcane. Other crops are coconut, banana, chilli, vegetable. The famous paddy fields that grow here are small.
