Food was very nice. This was a pleasant surprise compared to my earlier visits there under the previous ownership. Service is a little slow and has scope for improvement.

I stayed at this hotel in March 1981. It was run by an elderly English couple. A fine servant with a turban served us in the restaurant. CAMPA COLA was 2 rupees in those days.nI have very good memories of it. It was not cheap at that time, about 50 USD per night, but it was fully booked. I would like to stay there again.

A hotel running from 1783 perfectly hold it's beauty perfectly in portraying the colonial tradition and the charm of bygone eras. Next to a royal experience at a cafe, Fairlawn is also very cosy too. To mention specially, the lights, the curtains, the tea-pots everything are worthy of praise. The inside decor holds a letter from Dominique Lapierre praising his stay here, which is enough to send chills down the spines of literature enthusiasts.nnThe traditional hot chocolate and ham sandwich came with beautiful dressings. The place is definitely worth an experience.

Pros· I went to live in a heritage bungalow, with old lifestyle vibes, and Elgin Fairlawn fell nothing short. Its a bungalow of luxury, tall mirrors, old artefacts, photos, showpieces. Walking on steps creates a creaking sound, opening room cupboard is not smooth, however this makes the experience more real.nThe staff are not the best professionals in hotel industry. They are aged, slow, but friendly and helpful.nBreakfast is a masala omelet, seasonal fruits, an Indian breakfast item, orange juice, tea or coffee. Its not a buffet, but plenty and tasty.nDid I mention the colorful cats and their two kittens I met during my stay?nReading books in the huge lounge felt royal, surrounded by throne sized sofas resting against giant soft cushions.nThe location is spot on, at the heart of all major tourist destinations such as Victoria Memorial, Park Street, Alipore Zoo etcnnOpportunities· Its not a premium hotel. Visitors should keep that in mind. Do not expect buffet breakfast, and other hotel like facilities like lifts.
