places of princely states (nawabo ka shehar) JunagadhnnBahauddin Arts College is one of the oldest Government Arts colleges in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat state. The foundation stone of the college was laid by Colonel J.M. Hunter on 25th March, 1897, the building was formally inaugurated by Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy, on 3rd November, 1900. The college became functional in 1902 as 'Bahauddin College'. In June 1983, it was bifurcated into two - Bahauddin Arts College and Bahauddin Science College. Shri Bahauddin bhai, Vazir of Junagadh State and Deputy Vazir Diwan Purushottam Rai Zala established the college initially to facilitate quality higher education to produce competent hands for the administration of the State of Gujarat. Initially the college was affiliated to Bombay University but later on the affiliation was transferred to Saurashtra University on its establishment in 1967.
