The boatman drank water from the river.. That's how clean it is. You can see the water bed below at the depth of 7 to 8 feets. The fishes and other aquatic faunas can be appreciated with clear vision. Bangladesh border is just across the river. Boating costs you from Rs 700 (for 30 minutes) to Rs 1500 (4 people can be seated in one boat). Swimming in the cleanest river was a once in a lifetime experience!

Great place where water is so clear that you can see the surface. Best time is November to January. You have to go the official boat office which is situated at the right side of the bridge. The official amount is Rs800 for a single boat. The India - Bangladesh border gate is only 500 meters away from the river camping site.

The distinctive charm of this river attracts tourists from all over the country and even abroad to take an unforgettable ride on Umngot River, and makes it one of the best places to visit in Meghalaya. Nothing compares to the heavenly joy of riding on this beautiful river surrounded by wilderness.

Better in winters, you'll get to see the depths of river till 15 feet. In summers you'll see around 5 feet depths in clear water. Don't visit during rains, not exciting.

Excellent natural spot but poorly maintained. The road leading to the spot is very narrow, steep and full of trucks and local taxis. Absolutely no good food restaurant except a few chips and snack vendors who charge almost 2 times the price. So if and when you want to visit, plan early, bring food and go in peace. This is one place you can actually shake hands with local Bangladeshis. They are seen enjoying the river as you enjoy the boating experience
