There's also one story of Mumtaz being jealous of begum gulara and how she conspired her murder.nActually she was tawauf and used to participate in mujras and in one such Shah Jahan met her and bcoz he fell in love with her he constructed those buildings and named it Mahal gulara.nGulnara loved to take boat rides at nights in Tapti river in nights and on one such night when Shah Jahan was not in town, Asaf Khan went to the place where Gul Ara Begum was enjoying her boat ride. Gul Ara Begum saw Asaf Khan, the Prime Minister of Mughals and Shah Jahan's father-in-law coming towards her in a boat at midnight, she thought he was getting some important message from Shah Jahan and told her boatman to move towards him. Asaf Khan shifted from his boat to her on the pretext of giving an important message and while talking to her pushed her into the river and she drowned. He threatened the maids and soldiers to silence or else they would face death penalty.nnShah Jahan never got to know about the real incident. He Was told that Gul Ara died from drowning. Thus ended the love story of Gul Ara Begum and Shah Jahan.nnमहल गुलहारा की निर्माण की कथा बहुत ही रोचक हैं। जब शाहजहाँ अपने पिता जहाँगीर के कार्यकाल में शहर बुरहानपुर आया था, तब ही उसे ‘गुलआरा’ नाम की गायिका से प्रेम हो गया था। ‘गुलआरा’ अत्यंत सुंदर होने के साथ अच्छी गायिका भी थी। इस विशेषता से शाहजहाँ उस पर मुग्ध हुआ। वह उसे दिल-ओ-जान से चाहने लगा था। उसने विवाह कर उसे अपनी बेगम बनाया और उसे ‘गुलआरा’ की उपाधि प्रदान की थी।nnशाहजहाँ ने करारा गाँव में उतावली नदी के किनारे दो सुंदर महलों का निर्माण कराया और इस गांव के नाम को परिवर्तित कर बेगम के नाम से ‘महल गुलआरा’ कर दिया। शाहजहाँ इस स्थान को प्रारंभ से ही पसंद करता था। इसीलिए इस स्थान को आकर्षक बनाने के लिए उसने यहाँ सुंदर उद्यान लगाये थे और इसे पर्यटन का उत्तम श्रेणी का केंद्र बनाया था। वह सदैव चाँदनी रात में इस जल प्रपात के सौंदर्य का आनंद लेने आता था और घंटों बैठकर संगीत का आनंद लेता था।nnइस महल का निर्माण पूर्व और पश्चिम दिशा में ईंट और चूना पत्थर से किया गया हैं। महलों में दो बडे कक्ष हैं, जो बहुत ही सुंदर हैं। महलो की छत पर पहुँचने के लिए मध्य भाग में बाहर की तरफ़ से सीढ़िदार जीना है, जिनके द्वारा महलों के ऊपरी भाग पर जाते हैं।nnछत से दूर-दूर तक के दृश्य हरे-भरे खेत, जलप्रपात आकर्षक दिखाई देते हैं। दोनों महल मज़बूत स्तंभों पर कमानें देकर निर्मित किए गए हैं। उन कमानों के नीचे पानी बहता है। बरसात की बाढ़ के पानी से इसी कारण महल अभी तक ख़राब नहीं हो पाए हैं।nnएक महल से दूसरे महल तक पहुँचने के लिए सुंदर सीढ़िदार रास्ता बनाया गया है। थोड़े-थोडे अंतर से आठ पहलू वाले सुंदर चबूतरे बनाये गये हैं। इन चबूतरों पर बैठकर जलप्रपात का सौंदर्य और ऊँचे-ऊँचे महल देखते ही बनते हैं।nnसन् 1803 ई. सिंधिया सरकार फ़ौज ने आहूखाना के पास पड़ाव डाला था, उस समय नहर भूमि में धंस गई थी और पानी आना बंद हो गया था। वर्तमान महल पुरातत्त्व विभाग के अंतर्गत है। समय-समय पर मरम्मत का काम होता रहता है। साफ-सफाई का पूरा ध्यान रखा जाता है।
