Solda is located in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, at an altitude of 1,840 meters. Thanks to its charm and its position, at the foot of the most majestic peaks of the Eastern Alps, the small (400 inhabitants) and characteristic alpine village of Solda boasts a long tourist tradition, dating back to the dawn of the history of mountaineering and winter sports. The Ortles massif and the surrounding peaks are ideal terrain for ever new adventures, to discover an uncontaminated mountain environment: excursions to the alpine refuges in the area, via ferrata, rock climbing, mixed and glacier climbing, ski mountaineering. The Solda cableway guarantees quick and convenient access to almost 2,600 m a.s.l. of the Rifugio Città di Milano (Schaubachhütte), an ideal starting point for countless excursions and climbs. In winter, thanks to their high altitude and the particular microclimate of the area, the perfectly prepared 44 km of Solda ski slopes guarantee perfect snow, for a much longer skiing season than that of the vast majority of other ski resorts. If it is the air of the great mountains that you breathe in Solda, it is not surprising that the great Himalayan mountaineer Reinhold Messner has made it his own place of choice, making it almost a small Tibetan enclave in South Tyrol, starting with the now characteristic presence of yaks which the strong climber imported from his expeditions and who found ideal environment and climate in Solda. Yak, but not only: it is in Solda that Messner wanted to inaugurate the MMM Ortles "At the end of the world" (museum dedicated to the world of eternal ice, as part of the vast museum project Messner Mountain Museum), the collection of memorable mountaineering "Alpine Curiosa" kept in the small "Flohhäusl" and the restaurant "Yak & Yeti".
