Turin International School of Comics

Sono studente del corso di fumetto, ora al termine. Mi sono iscritto a questa scuola con molte aspettative, data l'ottima pubblicità che fanno, il vedere alcuni lavori usciti di ex alunni e dall'impressione ottima che mi aveva fatto la struttura all'open day. Gli unici pro sono che ti insegnano un buon approccio al disegno, come prendere reference, quali risorse usare e che ogni tanto i professori possono mostrarci qualche corto/episodio/fumetto loro stessi per prendere spunto. Partiamo dal principio: Il primo giorno del primo anno, il nostro professore ha detto a tutta la classe "Non c'è bisogno di nessuno di voi", riferendosi al fatto che ovviamente non tutti avremo successo o comunque una carriera brillante. C'è un detto: devi vendere la spazzatura come se fosse oro, non il contrario. Già solo questa frase mi ha fatto pensare se avessi fatto bene o meno a pagare il corso. Il primo anno è stato utile solo per i primi tre mesi, durante i quali appunto abbiamo fatto anatomia, come gestire una pagina, come prendere reference, come partire dalle basi e tutto il resto è stato fuffa inutile, perché non mi è rimasto niente e non sono insegnamenti che applico alla mia attuale carriera, anzi, sono superati da quasi 20 anni. Abbiamo passato il resto dell'anno a fare "progetti" diversi per imparare stili diversi ma ovviamente, essendo una classe variegata e con stili diversi, non è stato possibile avere un risultato uniforme. Il professore può essere bravo quanto vuole, ma non può cambiare le basi artistiche di una persona, quindi è ovvio che chi eccelle in uno stile avrà voti bassi in un altro e la media ne risentirà. In primis, io sono stato criticato per avere uno stile particolare, che "non vendeva", quindi per evitare continue frecciatine o rimproveri da parte dei professori ho dovuto imparare uno stile che non mi si addiceva, risultando così in dei lavori non al top delle mie capacità. Se un fumetto vende o meno lo decide il pubblico. Il secondo anno? Quasi inutile. Abbiamo passato l'anno a imparare diversi stili di inchiostrazione: pennello, pennino e pennarelli, con dei progetti finali anche qui dalla dubbia utilità, visto che sono stati molto pesanti e vuoti. Dovevamo fare tavole, tavole, tavole, solo tavole. Due lezioni in tutto il corso per insegnare come SI RACCONTA un fumetto. Non parliamo poi dei professori che si perdevano in chiacchiere inutili o discorsi durante la lezione, caricandoci di lavoro a casa perché avevano perso tempo a scuola. Cosa pago a fare se vado in sede 6 ore a settimana per sentire monologhi? Il programma del terzo anno? Un mese di colorazione buttato lì con una sola tecnica (l'acrilico, terribile, sarebbe stato meglio insegnare acquerelli, promarker o ecoline) e poi si è ritornato a fare progetti. E quindi tavole, tavole, tavole. Lezioni su come si racconta un fumetto? Zero. La didattica a distanza poi ha solamente contribuito a dare delle scuse ai professori per essere più antipatici del solito: il covid ha colpito tutti e questo lo sappiamo, ha dato anche una batosta a chi lavorava per mantenersi la scuola e ha perso il lavoro e a chi ha dovuto caricarsi di lavoro extra per riuscire a mantenersi (per chi come me: corso, materiali e stanza in affitto) e tutto questo si è tradotto in "Tanto siete a casa, lavorate". Noi lavoriamo, ma un minimo di comprensione non sarebbe male se non riusciamo a incastrare bene tutto in piena pandemia. I professori poi pretendono delle consegne in orario ma non si preoccupano di controllare BENE gli aggiornamenti dei gruppi facebook, dicendo candidamente "Voi consegnate e io controllo appena posso". Pretendono professionalità, ma non la danno in cambio. Non si è mai fatto menzione sui vari generi di fumetto, un minimo di studio teorico, una ricerca su com'è il mercato del fumetto ai giorni nostri, neanche una giornata in fiera (quando si poteva) gratis per gli alunni per stare nell'"ambiente" Solo tristezza e mi ritrovo alla fine del corso con qualche euro in meno, la testa confusa e i polsi distrutti.

I speak as a former first year student ... The school did not leave me satisfied at all nor did it teach me anything that I could not learn from Youtube or other tutorials on the internet. If nothing else, I feel I have wasted my money and time and find myself even further away from my dream of becoming a cartoonist. The teachers are not as professional as they should be ... and although they are all undoubtedly excellent artists, they are not able to be teachers (some cannot explain or waste too much time talking about this and that, others do not follow the students and they don't care about their jobs ... their weaknesses and insecurities ... how to help them improve and so on); in short ... whoever is good and gets along will continue to improve ... whoever needs to learn and acquire security will drop out of school. The knowledge acquired is fragmentary and the gaps will accumulate over time as there is no time for review or clarification in a school that only teaches for a few hours a week. In my case I still don't understand anything about anatomy .... and not knowing how to draw the human body in a comic would say it's damn serious. Nobody explained the subject well to me and nobody took care to verify my gaps or help me overcome them ... so much so that once I got to the dynamic anatomy course I found myself even more in problems and towards the end of the school year I left the institute. I am sure of the fact that some students can leave the school of comics as full-time artists ... but I am equally certain of the fact that 50% of the students enrolled during the first year will drop out of courses ... and not because the subject does not they are interested enough but for the simple fact that teachers do not know how to do their job properly or do not have enough time to do it during that meager handful of hours a week that are allocated to lessons. I will continue to try to learn the trade in other ways even if at the moment I feel confused and I have no idea where and how to find them since I had enrolled in this school precisely to obtain security on a technical level and how to proceed in the future working world. Sin.

My son was not absolutely satisfied ... he did not find what he thought he would get ... costs in the norm..500 enrollment and 2800 each year

My son is not feeling well .. the teacher does not exchange two words with his parents even to pray to him, and he cannot do it with children. It would take a teacher a little more inclined to teach, otherwise hours are lost.
