Municipality a few km from Cagliari positioned under the ancient walls. To visit the historic center with its churches and shops in the narrow streets The first origins of a modern intermediate administrative subdivision of the Sardinian south-west date back to the royal edict of May 4, 1807, with which Sardinia was divided into fifteen prefectures, including that of Iglesias, including the historical-geographical sub-region of Sulcis-Iglesias. In 1807 the royal prefecture was established with this royal edict and the territory of Sardinia was divided into 15 provinces, eight in the Capo di Cagliari (including that of Iglesias) and seven in that of Sassari. In 1821 Carlo Alberto reduced the number of provinces to ten and the province of Iglesias also included the territory of the suppressed prefecture of Villacidro but remained subject to the Court of Cagliari Prefecture. So profound transformations were sanctioned by the royal edict of July 19, 1825, on the basis of which the prefectoral circumscriptions were brought to 10. In 1838, with royal edict of 27 July, the Royal Prefectures were definitively governed with the establishment of 6 courts which depended on 85 mandates presided over by ordinary judges. The Court of prefecture of Cagliari depended on 21 mandates, including those of Iglesias, Carloforte, Sant'Antioco and Villamassargia.
