Returning from Fonte Avellana we saw this abbey from the road that looked really beautiful and we stopped to take a look. As we expected it was closed and we did not find any information on who to call for a possible visit so we had to limit ourselves to observing it from outside. Too bad for all these abbeys in the area that are closed ...

The Abbey of Sant'Emiliano in Congiuntoli is a Benedictine monastery founded in the 10th century. The abbey was dedicated to one of the martyrs of Numidia, Emiliano, a fifty-year-old soldier of the imperial army. It looks more like a fortified structure than a religious building. This is also the case for nearby Sitria, this is due to the fact that we are in areas that were once on the border so it was necessary to defend oneself. Inside, a fresco of the Madonna with Saints.

Under renovation. Remarkable place of worship, in line with the important abbeys in the area. It is close to the Sentino river, where you can bathe on hot days ... and the heat is felt here, since we are in a valley. Next to the abbey, on the opposite side of the road, the path starts to reach Montelago on foot

Silence peace; If it weren't for the cars that sometimes pass along the nearby highway, you would feel as if you were on a long journey through time. The monastery is currently closed, it is waiting for renovation (?), It can only be viewed from the outside

Really amazing. A mystical place that conveys feelings of profound peace.
