Reviews
Paolo Boschi (12/19/2020)
Located in the center of Piazza Beccaria, the Porta alla Croce gave its name to the place, which before 1876 was called Piazza alla Croce. This is the last local testimony of the ancient walls of Florence, which were demolished as part of the project of the ring road by the architect Giuseppe Poggi. The Porta alla Croce is still majestic today and integrates well with the neoclassical buildings that surround it. The gardens on the two wings of the gate are also beautiful, especially the one reached from via Gioberti. Under the arch there is a recently restored fresco.

Undoubtedly beautiful, even if in the midst of traffic it is difficult to be able to look at it and see it as it deserves to be seen.
Leonardo Pancani (11/09/2019)
Porta di Santa Croce (or alla Croce) was initially called San Candida. It is one of the gates of Florence that until the mid-1800s were connected by the walls that were demolished to realize the Poggi project.
