Officially it is Piazza Cesare Battisti, but in ancient times it has always been called "Piazza delle Erbe", this because until 1900 there was a two-door wooden newsstand containing a painting of S. Lorenzo martyr, particularly revered by greengrocers and greengrocers from Novara . The arcades surrounding the square, although dating back to different periods, give it a homogeneous and elegant character. Tradition has it that the columns on the north side are a spoil of war, coming from Biandrate, which, faithful to Barbarossa, was destroyed by the Novaresi. This place, so simple and apparently unimportant, is known in the esoteric world as the most important "magical" place in Novara. This is because the square extends according to a precise geometric arrangement, forming a "geodesic" triangle, the conventional center of the city and that is the point from which it is possible to measure the precise distances from Novara to the other cities. This triangle, which actually constitutes the real living and throbbing heart of Novara, set in the square, is a granite stone. This stone was stolen in 1992, it mysteriously reappeared from the hands of a priest who said he had found it in a confessional. It was re-set, but the position was too different from the previous one. From that moment it is said that the square lost its telluric energy due to the orientation now out of phase.

Novara is all beautiful, small and pretty! Nice to take a walk under the arcades, look at the windows and then enter the Broletto bar for an aperitif! To make an abundant aperitif - Bar Bracce.

Jewel that must be safeguarded by shouting and by crane cranes that show off on certain occasions arrogance and uncouth ways. Here once it was a market place of vegetables brought by the peasants with their carts early in the morning and the work and human simplicity was evident and emblematic. Now the emblematic finds its representation in the cretinotto gradasso that moves waving and spits on the ground or in the Bedouin who with his backpack on his shoulder wanders with uncertain gait on a bicycle to spend another day of profitable activity in the role of sure resource of Italian society .
