Beautiful facade.

These two churches are cute from the outside (they got bombed in WWII :o), but nothing especial in the inside
Lorenzo Bagnolini (08/17/2020)
They are two very beautiful churches to visit where inside you will find beautiful sculptures and very beautiful works of art. Also in these churches there is the hand of juvarra and the baroque style is exceptional. In the back of the churches there are 2 huge statues

Small church but very cute. Separated by Via Roma from San Carlos. The exterior of this is more striking unlike the interior.

In the beautiful Piazza San Carlo, on the south side, the splendid setting of the two twin churches acts as an entrance to the last stretch of via Roma towards Porta Nuova; the structure on the right is the Church of Santa Cristina commissioned by the Regent Maria Cristina of France, formerly Madama Reale, to remember the little son who just died at the age of five. The Duchess purchased the land in 1639 and entrusted the project to Carlo di Castellamonte and subsequently, after their disappearance, to their son Amedeo. The construction works stopped after the designer's death and were resumed by the architect of the Savoy house, Filippo Juvarra, at the behest of Vittorio Amedeo II of Savoy between 1715 and 1718; the Church of Santa Cristina is considered the first work of the Sicilian architect in Turin. Church of Santa Cristina The facade is characterized by two superimposed orders and a large oval window; the combination of columns and pilasters mark the entire facade enriched with statues of saints, including Santa Cristina and Santa Teresa, and allegories of the virtues. The church of Santa Cristina has a single nave, the spectacular vault was frescoed by the Swiss painters Giacomo and Giovanni Andrea Casella, alongside the main altar a chapel houses the painting by Antonio Triva "Rest from the flight into Egypt", and worthy of note it is the main altar by Ferdinando Bonsignore. Also at the behest of Maria Cristina of France, with the construction of the church, the monastery of the Carmelite Scalze nuns was erected to which the regent was very close and where she was buried dressed as a barefoot Carmelite. In 1802 the convent was suppressed and the church was transformed into a stock exchange and then again consecrated and destined to a place of worship, at the behest of Vittorio Emanuele I of Savoy, a few years later. The convent was definitively demolished in the early twentieth century during the renovation works in via Roma.
