In 1969 the building was bequeathed to the Municipality of Udine with the commitment of its museum destination. It is now a section of the Gallery of Modern Art, of which it preserves the archives of Architecture and Design. Palazzo Valvason Morpurgo is one of the richest buildings in history and art in Udine thanks to the superimposition of interventions that the successive owners have started to embellish what was originally a set of distinct homes of various local nobles. The first intervention in this sense, in the eighteenth century, is probably due to the rich Sarmede family who begin to host many artists to decorate the residence, with paintings and stuccos, portraits and miniatures. At the end of the eighteenth century, with the new owners, the counts of Valvason, in addition to further structural work, it was decided to update the interior decorations according to the new neoclassical taste. The task was entrusted to Giambattista Canal and Giuseppe Borsato, who decorated the main floor and the staircase with a beautiful cycle of frescoes, among the most representative works of the Neoclassical style. Noteworthy are the frescoes on the ceiling of the stone staircase, where Canal paints the Allegories of Fame and Truth celebrating the Valvason family, and those on the ceiling of the hall of honor: here "The chariot of Apollo" is painted with a wealth of details and a daringness of perspective illusionism that is simply spectacular.

Beautiful frescoed rooms on the main floor. Seat of the Galleries of the Civic Museums Project with architecture archives available on request. Often home to temporary exhibitions in the rooms on the ground floor and sometimes on the first. In the summer concerts, theatrical performances and much more take place in the courtyard.

The palace is home to many very interesting exhibits, this one of the fossils is not representative of the modest wealth of the Carnic mountains.
