The obelisk rises to a height of almost 22 meters, it is carved in red granite from the Baveno quarries and on the sides it is engraved and highlighted in red pigment the names of the 819 municipalities that contributed to the erection of the monument, among which the city of Turin, which abstained so as not to further exacerbate the political conflict that had led to the exile of the Archbishop of Turin, while on the base stands the inscription "THE LAW IS EQUAL FOR ALL", a principle proclaimed in the Albertine Statute and later basis of the Italian Constitution. The work, carried out by Luigi Quarenghi, was placed in 1853 in the center of Piazza Savoia, then Piazza Susina or Paesana, to celebrate the promulgation of the Siccardi Law which abrogated the ecclesiastical forum, bringing back the men of the Church, the right of asylum, no longer granted in churches, the man died, making ecclesiastical possessions alienable, and other minor provisions, issued on April 9, 1850 after the failure of negotiations with the Holy See for an agreed solution and a tough political battle that saw clerical opposites and liberals. The Gazzetta del Popolo promoted a subscription to erect a monument in memory of this epochal change, to which numerous other newspapers adhered and 819 municipalities of the Kingdom contributed; in the base of the monument was walled up a metal box containing the documentation of the subscriptions, a flask of gunpowder, to symbolize the defense of the State, some coins, bags of rice, wheat, cereals, "four pieces of breadstick" and " a small bottle of ordinary country wine ". The existence of this "time capsule" ante litteram quickly became part of the many city legends in which imaginative esoteric interpretations overlap historical facts.

Normally I would have ignored this place, but I packed a car nearby and saw this monument. I have no idea where the delight of the other evaluators came from, it did not captivate me. The only plus is that you can see it from a distance and I know where I have a parking lot.

An obelisk in the city center I went to see this monument with my girlfriend for a weekend in Turin. The obelisk is located in Piazza Savoia in the historic center of the capital city of Piedmont. On the faces of the monument are the passages of the famous law that abolished ecclesiastical privileges. If you pass by this area, take a moment to look at this monument.
