Emblematic, the state of abandonment in which the bust of William D’Altri, young Cesena fell in East Africa in the thirties of the last century. Born in August 1913, D'Altri took part in the colonial war in Ethiopia with the rank of first airman. He was slain along with a dozen fellow soldiers during a mission (Lekemti) which, on paper, should not have involved great risks. However, the routine mission turned into a massacre. Between 26 and 27 June 1936 the military group was attacked by a band of ex-regular Abyssinians. William D’Altri lost his life at only 23 years old. All the fallen were awarded a gold medal for military valor. In the motivation of William D’Altri it reads: “He asked voluntarily to participate in a bold and risky aeronautical company tending to affirm our possession in the distant region. Attacked by overwhelming rebel forces, instead of seeking refuge and refuge, he gathered around his officers, fighting bravely and valiantly to the extreme sacrifice. Wonderful example of generous boldness, of conscious firmness and patriotic feeling ".
