The ossuary of Solferino is a monumental ossuary located in the municipality of the same name in the province of Mantua near the Rocca di Solferino and the Museum of the Risorgimento of Solferino and San Martino. This church is dedicated to San Pietro in constraints and is considered the oldest in Solferino. Originally a parish church, it was seriously damaged during the famous battle of June 24, 1859, it was restored, and since 1870 it has been used for the custody of the remains of about 7,000 soldiers. Entry is free. Anyone who wishes can make an offer. To the left of the ossuary there is a bronze bust depicting Napoleon III, while to the right there is a small funeral monument that commemorates the French general Charles Auger, who died of his wounds in the battle of Solferino. At the entrance to the ossuary there are busts of the five French generals who perished in the second war of independence. The facade of the ossuary is embellished with two mosaics representing St. Peter and Christ the Redeemer; above these works of art there is a statue of the Madonna.
