The convent was built opposite the fourteenth-century church dedicated to St. Mary and St. John the Evangelist, located in the village outside the defense walls. Over the centuries, following a progressive inactivity due to the construction of the dome of the Body of Christ in 1866, it was demolished. Currently the canonical house and some rooms of the convent remain in use and only three of the porticoed sides of the convent have remained standing. Recent restoration works have seen the erection of the fourth side composed of the arcaded wall and the corridor, which continue the pre-existing architecture and enclose the courtyard.
