I love the Italian experience of Pontremoli, free from mass tourism. I must confess I may be bias due to family connections to the area but I still find it a lovely place to visit after 40 years.

Beautiful and characteristic medieval town. It was very exciting to wander through the narrow streets, discover hidden corners and tiny squares. It is a combination of medieval architecture on the border between Liguria, Tuscany and Emilia.

Ours was a visit of a few hours but the village, the castle and its cathedral square enchanted us. My heart is crying, however, to see here too many closed shops that would give even more life to the place that doesn't deserve to be abandoned. If I can in the future I will stay longer.

The ancient village of Pontremoli is very beautiful. It contains a lot of magic and makes you relive in the past. The visit to the cathedral, the Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Repubblica, where the Municipality of Pontremoli is located, is very suggestive. An historical place not to be missed is the Caffè degli Svizzeri located in the historic center that still produces the typical local pastries with a romantic name, the Amor.
