Permanent nest of storks. I first saw this nest 30 years ago in 1990. During the breeding season the storks form solitary pairs. Usually the same couple stays together for the whole season and sometimes for more than one, also using the same nest. Usually the male arrives first at the nest in order to take possession of it, then the female arrives, which may be the same as the year before or another. The Stork is a very territorial species, since it defends its nest and the nearby area from intruders. The male generally remains to guard the nest by showing off by beating his bill (bill-clattering) and doing a particular dance called the up-down display, and he moves away only in rare cases to look for food. Usually there can also be clashes between couples who want to occupy the same nest, and it can also happen that young individuals, who have not yet reached the reproductive age (about 4 years), want to take possession of the nest of an adult couple even if then they will not be able to reproduce.
