Craco Historical Center

Craco is one the most outstanding locations of Italy with regards to abandoned towns: even though there's a mad man living there who's treathneing people who want to gain access I strongly encourage you to get there and take amazing pictures! The local authority will sort him out :)

Amazing place but it gets a bad review because the tour costs 15€ and they accept only cash. The next ATM is 20-25 minutes away.

We highly recommend a visit to Craco. Discover the geological and town planning catastrophe that led to the forced abandonment of a once thriving Italian village. Book a tour though the museum, so you see the museum first before being taken on the tour: hair nets and hard hats obligatory! Fascinating place with 1000 years of history up till very recently. The photographs from the 60’s really bring the place to life. This is a living restoration site and we hope to visit again in few years as they open up new areas once they are safe.
